How We Can Help

This page has four sections: first are suggestions about what to do if you have a loved one or friend confined at Howard County Detention Center (HCDC), second is similar advice if the person is confined elsewhere. Third is a list of contacts for religious activities at different institutions in Maryland. Last are a few suggestions if you are upset because a loved one or friend is incarcerated.

If you have a loved one or friend confined at the Howard County Detention Center (HCDC), we recommend the following:

  • You should pray for your friend or loved one, and for all who may have contact with him or her at HCDC.
  • You should encourage him or her to participate in spiritual programs at HCDC.
  • You should ask that person’s pastor (or your pastor if that person does not have a church connection) to visit him or her (CJM can help the pastor make arrangements to visit).
  • You may want to contact CJM (see below) and let us know about your friend or loved one so that we can try to meet his or her needs specifically.
  • You should stay close to the Lord yourself so that He can strengthen and guide you while your loved one or friend is confined.

To obtain information about HCDC visiting hours, what an inmate may have, etc., contact HCDC:

    410-313-5200.

If you have a loved one or friend confined someplace else, we recommend the following:

  • You should pray for your friend or loved one, and for all who may have contact with him or her at the correctional institution.
  • You should encourage him or her to participate in spiritual programs at the correctional institution.
  • You should stay close to the Lord yourself so that He can strengthen and guide you while your loved one or friend is confined.

Others ministering in Maryland jails and prisons

If you are interesting in the religious and spiritual programs at a particular jai (detention center) or prison, simply call the institution and ask to speak to the program supervisor.  The program supervisor should be able to give you the name and contact information of the chaplain or person leading religious programs at the institution.  Local institution phone numbers may be found in your local phone book.  Contact information for Maryland prison units may be obtained from the web site of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (http://www.dpscs.state.md.us/).

If you are upset about the confinement of your loved one or friend and do not have a church and pastor to minister to you, contact CJM and we will help you find spiritual guidance, encouragement, and help.
